Because I Have Too Much Free Time

One of Samantha's favorite blankets got a rip in it some time ago and just the other day she came running at nap time because that blanket was nor ripped in half. She was so distraught and thought that I should put it back together. I didn't think that was really the best thing because if you saw this little blanket, you'd realize that it's pretty thin and not very big. But, I decided we'd try to make a little knotted doll out of the fabric scraps. We ended up at the fabric store buying fleece fabrics to make a few more knotted dolls as well. I have to practice making a doll out of that material before I even go near her blanket! Maybe I'll have 1 doll made by next year!

Winning Samantha's Love

At nap time today:

Me: I love you Samantha; See you after nap time
Sam: I love you too Mommy
Me: Thank you honey
Sam: I love Daddy too; do you love Daddy?
Me: Yes, I love Daddy too
Sam: Does Jakey love Daddy?
Me: Yes, Jakey loves Daddy and Mommy and Daddy love Jakey
Sam: I love Dora too. Dora brought us cookies. I looove Dora! [Dora is our real estate agent!]

First Day of School

Samantha was very excited to go to school today! She went equipped with her brand new Dora backpack! Jake and I were only there for 5 minutes when she was saying "bye Mommy" and waving me out the door! I think that Jake would have liked to stay and play too!

It has been funny only having Jake at home today. We went to the gym after dropping off Samantha and it felt funny bringing only Jake into the gym. When we came home the house seemed really quiet. Jake is usually pretty loud, but I guess only when Samantha is home! We often laugh that Jake prefers to play with the baby dolls and kitchen toys, but today he went right for the Lego table and the cars. He played for a long time building and driving the cars. I can't say that he didn't play with the babies at all because he did pretend to feed one of the babies lunch, but that wasn't the first thing that he gravitated to today. Listening to Jake talk today I realized that everything is "blue". I was so proud of him when he picked up a blue Lego and said "blue", but the effect dwindled when he said blue for a green, red and yellow Lego too! But, he is starting to pick up on his colors. I think he really does know things that are blue, but just doesn't know the names of the other colors yet so he just says blue.

We went to pick up Sammy after nap time and when we got to school, she was at her cubby putting on her hat and mittens. Her excited reaction at seeing us quickly turned to dismay as a look passed over her face as if to say "oh man, you are here now? I'm just about to go outside to play!" The teachers said that Samantha had a great day and that she played in the different areas of the classroom, exploring all the centers and making friends. She was a little sad after lunch because she thought I was coming to have lunch with her, but she was distracted by a coloring project and outside time. She even took a good nap and the teacher said she had a hard time waking her up!

She really seemed to have a great day and it helped us that we were able to log in online and view her classroom whenever we wanted. It will be interesting to see if she starts asking if it is a school day since she is only going 2 days a week right now.

Mommy's New Toy!

This is my Christmas present from Chris that I just got because we ended up returning the camera he originally got. I am looking forward to lugging this camera every where! :)

Take Out

This week we decided to try a little something different for dinner. Foster's Market is a restaurant near where Chris works that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as does catering and family meals. We decided to try their family meals, where you place an order the week before and then on Monday you go to Foster's and pick up your week's worth of meals. They have menus for the whole month, so we picked the week that we liked best for January/February and decided to try it! Here are all of our meals pre-packaged for us.

Last night we had spaghetti with Chicken Arugula Meatballs and Arugula Pesto which was very good. This week each meal also comes with a salad and cookies for dessert. This is what we are having for the rest of the week:
Slow Roasted Pork Tacos
Mom's Meatloaf
Grilled Veggie Ratatouille
Eggplant Parmesan
Sure this is all stuff that we could make at home, but it's kind of fun bringing it home! We figured we had to at least try it once! So far so good. Jake even at some pesto pasta and meatballs for lunch today!

I Didn't See It Coming

This morning I went into Jake's room to get him out of bed, and the first thing I noticed when I walked into the room was that Jake was naked. Not only did he have his pajamas off, but he also threw his diaper out of the crib. The second thing I noticed was the smell. There was definitely poop in the room, but Jake wasn't wearing a diaper. Quickly I picked the diaper up off the floor to see if there was poop in there; imagining that there was poop on the floor. No poop on the diaper or the floor, but lots of poop in the crib! This was definitely a calculated move as there weren't any traces of poop in the diaper, so it's not like he went and then took off everything and dumped the diaper out in the crib. He has been showing interest in the potty, but I just didn't see this coming! The clincher was that after he went poop, he must have stepped in it because it was all over his feet. Yuck! I stood there in shock for what felt like an eternity. After I came to, I whisked him into a bath. I tested out our new washing machine's sanitary cycle which got the job done! This was a great way to start Samantha's first day of preschool!
