We had Jake's 9 month pediatrician appointment this morning. He weighed in a 21 pounds and 2 ounces, which I believe is just a bit about the 50th percentile. He is 28.75 inches (75th percentile). He is right on track for growth; no concerns for his development. The doctor did confirm that he is indeed getting 4 top teeth in all at once! Since we are new to this pediatric practice, we haven't really chosen one primary care physician for the kids, so we've just kind of been seeing whoever has open time that works for our schedule. So, today Chris talked to the doctor about Jake's chronic cough that he's had since birth that tends to get worse when he is sick. Every time we've been in for a sick visit we mention this cough, but of course he never actually coughs while there, and when they've listened to his lungs they've been clear. Well, today the doctor said that no baby should have a chronic cough for no reason, so she had us give him a breathing treatment, which relaxes the airways, making it easier for her to hear what is going on in there. Sure enough after the breathing treatment she could hear that he is wheezing. So, she referred us to a pulmonary specialist, and we are to give him breathing treatments 3 times a day until we see the specialist. We have an appointment for Thursday morning. The doctor said that given Jake's history of breathing issues in the NICU, etc, she just wants to be sure that there isn't something else going on. So, we will wait until Thursday to find out anything further.
